Low Fuel warning lamp!!

Post by dub6n2 »

why is it that my low fuel warning lamp is remaining on whilst the tank is full (and the meter shows) . Also this time when I filled the tank the meter got stuck and started going up little by little every time I started the car again!! the lamp isn't the first time that remained on but usually after a few new starts it turns off. any help pls! As soon as I manage to fix a problem I have with VAG-COM I will give a cluster adaptation maybe it fixes it

it sounds like an earth problem on either the clocks, or the fuel sender located under the drivers side rear seat.

to say the truth last time I lifted the back seat there was a wire that was coming from a hole in the floor board with a horse shoe like connector at the end of it. it was connected to no where and it seems that it has never been connected to anything because it was intact. anyone know what it is for? It is not coming from the fuel sender

OK I went to have a look at the wire. it is nothing other than an earthed wire (to the nut holding the seat belts) !! still does not know where the other end is supposed to be connected to :( !! If anyone could have a look at his polo and check what is the use for this wire I would be very great-full :)

that looks like the earth wire for a sub...follow it the other way and see where it leads to

that's the problem, that it leads to nowhere, one side is grounded (connected to the seat belt mountings) and the other end is loose! could be that it was used by some previous owner for a sub but I think I saw a photo of another polo having the same wire so I don't know if it is fitted from new

if it connects to nothing, remove it - there is no need for it to be there. It definitely looks like an old sub wire.

how did you sort out the fuel light thing in the end? It happens to mine if I drive well into the reserve, takes a day or 2 for the car to realise I've filled the tank. Its not a major problem because, as you say, the gauge reads correctly but I would still like to get it sorted, if its an easy fix.
