Hi
yesterday I changed the coolant temp sensor for a genuine VW one.
If I leave the car running on the drive the temp goes to the middle fine but when i drove to work this morning it never reached the middle (50mph on an A road)
should it be reaching temp and in turn using less fuel?
cheers

How far is it to work? It should heat up pretty quickly. Sounds like either your waterpump isnt working properly, or you have a blocked rad or a malfunctioning thermostat

30 mins tops
if im stood in traffic or driving slowly the gauge will hit the centre ok
on a faster run it gets just less than a 1/4 of the way up.
I had a new pump fitted with the timing belt, the sensor is a new genuine VW one
and i flushed the rad the first time I installed a sensor
lol seems to be one thing after another, will check for faults with VAG again
cheers

hi
up to 300 miles a tank at the moment
I guess a motorway tank would be more
happy with that for now

Hey mate!
£45 for a full tank and do about 60 miles a day! (to uni and back)
so i normally get around 330 - 340 miles just before going into the red
Plus mines a 1.4 8v

Re: 1.4 MPG Question - what do you get>?
hi,
bringing up an old thread here but i reset my mile-o-meter (as i call it) when i last filled up and i have been driving very conservatively all month no over revving noting no fun whatsoever just went to go check it and im on 248.0 miles exactly with about a quarter of a tank left considering its only a 1.4 8v thats not very good is it ?. no problems with the cars temprature it sits in the middle fine and never differs once temp is reached, its done 137355 miles
lol but as far as im aware the car is sound but is there anything i can replace or do to get a better mpg ???

Id get it scanned with vagcom
You could have a dodgy temp sensor, dodgy lambda, or your throttle body may simply need a clean out
