Cambelt change

Hello fellas I'm just writing because my polo is coming up for a service! I was just wanting to know can u get in and do it without taking the front end of the car off?? Only reason I ask is that's what has to be done to some audis. Thanks again

Yes you have to take off the fender liner and engine mount, about 2-3 hours for someone that knows what he is doing.

No nose off job as the engine is mounted transverse.

when I had my one done, the only extra thing the guy needed was a long extension for his socket wrench to turn the crank for timing, wheel didnt even come off

Ahhhh so u can get in through the wheel arch! Fantastic ! N ma old man is a mechanic and a fast one at that! Anymore info I may need?? And does the cambelt kit just contain cambelt and two tensioner/pulley type things?? Guy at Volkswagen sounded bait vaug when i asked him lol Thanks again

I did waterpump and replaced g12 coolant as well

Apparently there isn't a cambelt kit for the 1.8T engine. The other Polo engines all have specific kits but the GTi doesn't, or so I've been told. You need to buy the parts separately. If you're doing it yourself then you might as well replace the water pump at the same time. Saves doing all the cambelt work again if it fails...

I'm also doing the pump thank you! So it's just a cambelt and two tensioners? Thanks so much

I have a feeling that there a couple more bits involved. I'll dig my receipt out later and check it properly for part numbers mate.

Right, here's the list direct from my invoice:

Cleaner: G052164M2
Belt: 06B109119A
Stud: 06B109166
Roller: 06B109243C
Belt Damper: 06B109477B
Water Pump: 06A121012GX
Nut: N01100845
Washer: N01155813

You need one of each.

I would get 4 bottles g12 and run motor till thermostat opens and then top up the water
