Success: External temp in Climatronic screen

Post by TriggerFish »

Hi all,

Very quickly: does your climatronic unit display the outside temperature on the left of the screen?

The one in my Polo doesn't, but the one in the Golf does. Just wondering if it should do or not, as I can get a new Golf one for £5, and would quite like the temp on the A/C unit. (I might try swapping them over if I can be motivated/get the Golf one out easily!)

Cheers,
Joe

Quick Climatronic Question

Post by nigelelliott394 »

Mine doesn't. I'd say it's probably because there's already the temperature reading on the clocks.

Doesn't really bother me that much though :)

Cheers - it's on the Golf clocks too, with the MPG etc sitting between the two main dials.

Just for the sake of £5 it would be quite nice to have (if it's a unit specific thing) or useful as a spare anyway.

Yeah, I've found the diagnostic mode before now - it's this I'm after:

I've read it's a coding option, so will have a quick look, see if it can be turned on with VAGCOM. I think all the cars use the same units, so buying another would be a waste of money.

Hmm, might be doable:

If I'm right, the Polo should read: *40*1 at present. If I try changing that too *40*0 then maybe it'll display. I'll have to check the Golf too, see if that ends with a 0 or 1.

Right, got this working now - quick video of the change below.

In short - in VAG-COM, module 8 Auto HVAC, recode and change the last digit to a 0 (so my thoughts in post 6 were right! )

It now read 04000 which means everything I guessed above was right, and I think I get how VAG-COM coding works. :D

I've got this on mine but it's 1-2 out.... Does anyone know if it takes the temp from 2 different sensors???

Mine differs a bit too. My conclusion is drawn from what it does on the Golf. The Polo gives whole numbers - 6,7,8 etc on the dash, the Golf *.5 too. 6.5,7,7.5 etc.

If it says 6.5 on the dash, it'll often say 7 on the climatronic. I'm guessing that it's just it rounding the numbers slightly differently to the dashpod. So the dash could go to 6, the climatronic 7. I think it's that anyway. Don't think there are two sensors, as on the Golf the sensor is iffy, and drops to -20c quite often, which also shows up on the climatronic. If there were two sensors I doubt that would happen.

I see what you mean now - I had 6 and 12 showing on mine! Weird! I know the Golf had something where the temp reading didn't change until you'd driven a certain distance/time, maybe that's what the dash is doing, whereas the AC is in realtime? (I park in the shade in the mornings, so stands to reason.) Odd either way though!
