MY new vw polo gt!!!

Post by sephiroth09 »

hi everyone

Well i was looking for a vw polo sport tdi 100bhp on the cheap side(im a uni student the loves vw  ) but after 4 month or more of searching the cheap and cheerfull vw sport tdi i found a vw polo gt 130 cat d at a very good price(2895)!!it was damage very lightly near the front side wing(passenger side) , they didn t even had to replace the side wing with a new one.

Of course for that price it did come with few problem  .the brake are very bad, if im doing 30 mph and i press the brake all the way the car will not stop quickly at all  ! next week im looking to get some brembo disc and pad all around(are brembo any good?).the steering wheel is not alined properly ,when i drive with the steering wheel straight the car goes slightly left(not sure what it can be but i think is just the steering wheel not placed properly,it had a wheel alignment and the steering wheel is not pulled around). Also when i put the ignition on i hear a strange sound like water going throught tubes at hight pressure for just few second(max 2 or 3 sec) what could it be?.After that i think it need a full servicing with brake fluid change and gearbox oil change(just for peace of mind). How much the following would cost in labour?:
All 4 disc change+pad(my vw specialist charge me 60ph)

After that ill start with the body work, i get some dent and scracth removed.
This is my first diesel car and i would like to know at what Rpm should i change gear when the car is cold and hot?the first gear is very short which is quite anoying.what is the lowest rpm should i drive in any gear?
sorry for so many questions but i really dont have much experiance with diseal and turbocharged engine :( .

The water sound is probably te fuel pump priming itself. Make sure it's always warned up properly. And they tend to rev higher so drive it up to whatever you feel comfortable. You should be able to feel if the car is struggling.

Welcome to the forum, lovely GT and a great price. Good brakes are always money well spent, I'd get them sorted first. If you upgrade the brakes now to brembo's etc then when/if you decide to get a stage 1 remap you'll be pulling around 175 bhp which you'll need the brakes for  as if 130 diesel shire-horses wasn't fun enough!

As above, warming up is important, let it reach temperature before any real spirited driving. My uninformed friend ruined a Mk1 Leon FR Tdi for doing things like getting in the car and immediately redlining when it's -5 out. Made me die a little inside.

Pip_polo on here has modded a few Tdi's and a Polo GT is his next one, have a look through his thread for some info, it's good stuff!

Ill get the brake on monday(Until then i wont drive the car !!).can you point me to a good online part dealer where i can buy part for my polo?I also need to buy the front GT badge as is missing.About the fuel pump priming itselft ,is it normal that it does that sound every time i put the ingnition on?i heard somewhere that it should do that only one in a while but i could be wronge  .

Ill let the car warm up before reving over 2000 rpm,is that right?

It varies from person to person, but 2k is a good limit especially when starting from cold, the turbo kicks in around then and it needs a few moments for oil to reach it first. When you put your foot down you'll feel a real punt of torque at around 2k onwards, thats the turbo.

My pump primes almost every time too, nothing to worry about, while running the fuel is maintained at a very high pressure, which then releases when switched off hence the priming.

As for brakes you can source a secondhand set, they pop up every now and again on here and the pro of that is you know they'll fit :)

Dont worry about the fuel pump sound, i think every polo does that, mine makes that sound as soon as i open the drivers side door.

Im having problem finding the correct brake pad.im not sure if all 4 brake pad have to include the wear pad sensor or only the front one.I also would like to know which company make the breka pad and disc for VW?.
During my searching for the right part i found that the OEM brembo are cheaper then the genuine VW  . i was thinking to buy the parts from here http://www.nextdaybrakes.com/ :?: .
Still didnt drive the car properly yet! can t wait for the braking sistem to be sorted.

thanks

Only one pad has a wear sensor, one of the front ones. I can't remember which but as long as you buy the right kit it doesn't matter.

Any reputable brand brake pads are a good shout, Brembo, EBC greenstuff/yellowstuff etc, as long as they fit the Polo 9n or 9n3 you're set :) The OE brake pads VW use are Bosch, which is a good option too.

A Genuine VW set from Ebay to help you compare:

If you could now would be an ideal time to go for 312mm upgrade on the brakes.

hi guys

Bad news  !!!.I replaced the brakes and now i can stop properly but i found a strange noise coming from the turbo. The noise its like the siren of a police car.It does that in all the gear and temperature but i can hear it only at low rpm(1500 to 2000) after that the engine noise cover the siren noise.I think the turbo is on it way to turbo heaven.i wish i could be wrong  !!! can anyone estimate how much would be to replace the turbo?can a turbo be rebuild(like they do with greaboxes)?i was starting to plan for a new exhaust system but thiss happen!!anyway for the price,i was expeting something like that.

thanks

My 9n3 130 tdi makes roughly the same sort of noises you're having, a faint police siren noise at low revs when starting to accelerate. This is just the turbo spooling up to provide boost, quite normal. The loud hissing noise, sounding like air rushing though a narrow tube, usually happened when accelerating hard through 2000 to 2500 rpm. This is the sound of the air rushing through the pipes at maximum boost, I've had this noise since getting the car and i've had no other turbo issues with it. In my opinion there is nothing to get over worried about, just keep an ear open if it was to get significantly worse. Though, on second thoughts, since you say that it happens in all gears and temperatures, I could be wrong. :? What mileage is the car on? Don't worry too much till you know for sure that its on it's way out. It's all over the internet that these engines make the police siren noise when on boost - all the fabia vrs etc have the same issue. Hope its okay! :)

PS - Nice looking car, my old 9n was the same colour, miss it to be honest, better than my boring old silver 9n3!

hi

My car has done around 94000 mile which should be ok for a diesel engine. My hope is back, the car dosen t produce any smoke and i can feel the turbo pulling.i hear that when a turbo blows it can damage many parts and i would defenetly avoid that :!: .Now is Xmas time and money is low so i really hope is not the turbo :( .the siren police noise is very faint if i put the heater ON in position 2 is enough to cover the siren noise.the noise and Revs reletionship is as Eddie9n have describe, exactly the same thing.i can hear the noise mostly in 1 and 2 gear after that is hard to hear it but is there.when the car is warm the noise is very faint.

PS Eddie9n:if im not mistaken the 9n3 130 bhp is very rare even more then the 9n gt.

Sounds totally normal to me then, turbo whistle is a noise you should love. Welcome to the world of forced induction! If you want to hear more of the turbo soundtrack (yes you will) I'd get a good cone filter induction kit :)

Black smoke is also normal for a Euro 4 diesel engine (when you put your foot down) Another thing many people learn to love

As Ben90 has also said, it is completely normal for that engine. Also 94k - it should still have quite a bit of life left in it. Polos run the gerratt turbo over the kkk unit which is in the fabia vrs and the ibiza. The gerratt is a much better/stronger turbo and should last quite a while before it pops (if obviously looked after - regular oil changes etc).

:D Yup, you are right, the 9n3 130 is really rare. VW only produced them in the year 2006 and just over 200 were sold! I love mine so much :) Here's a picture anyway -Image
