It depends what you want to do. The engine does; fit theres one less bolt hole for the engine mount thats actually on the engine. (the other two are on the gearbox) So theres two bolts instead of three. Which is ok.
If you do everything; loom ecu and all the wiring then thats the best way. What I was trying to do was run a 1.4 litre mk4 engine with GT running gear so I could in theory have about 80bhp before I do any proper mods. This isnt so easy as I found out as 1 thing from the entire engine is incompatible (the inlet manifold). So Ive tried and to some extent failed to use the GT head on the mk4 polo block. This doesnt work because the design of the combustion chamber is different. A couple of diesel headgaskets would have sorted this but ECP have taken a month so far and theyve still only managed to get one (need 2).
Anyway what I should have done was bought a Golf 1.4 (not 1.6 as it has same problem as 1.4 mk4 polo) single point injection engine and used all my GT bits on that because the two engines (GT and 1.4 golf) are identical. Even the headgaskets are the same part number! I will be doing this in the near future probably so watch this space!

Found it Now
Thank for the info , as i have just bought the car but the engine if no good and thought i may as well do the convertion now rather than later and buy two engines and waste money , Ive also got a jetta 1.3 that i am putting a 1.8 in that so the 1.3 is spare and it only done 47000 mile , i have been told they are different and have no clue if the are or not .

The AEA has the same setup as the AEE in terms of the combustion chamber being split between the head and the block. It has a different part number to the AEE and AEX engine in terms of inlet manifold gasket but neither of these are the same as a GT whereas the 1.4 golf one is).
What setup have u got now on the polo? GT or CL or what?

I remember that 1.6 engined mk3.
Frode gave me the same advice when I had my GT as how the guy did it. Struggling to remember now, but it was using an old 1.6 block from a Passet or something similar. You had to machine the head carefully to get the piston to valve clearance just right. Frode friend had done this conversion but he buggered it up as he was using a head that he had already skimmed before and it was skimmed too much so the engine din't work well. Done properly on TB's, solid lifters (for 8000rpm), Frode was saying figures of 180bhp!

At 1600 vs 1300cc but with the same output I should damn well hope so!geezer222 wrote: it can be tweaked to 100 BHP plus it torquier than the Gt

Its difficult to give you the vw part number as an engine isnt classed as a single component. If you ring vw specialist breakers theyll know what you mean when you say AEA, AEE or whatever. Look ont yellow pages (www.yell.com) Ive just had a look for you anyway and i think its 032 100 103 CX but im not 100%geezer222 wrote:You seem to know alot about codes for engines the 030 what is the code for it as the scrap yards are asking me for it ?Gareth_GT_Hatch wrote:Yeah if you can get one .
