Engine Pinking

Hi Everyone, thought i would ask the people who know, just recently bought a 2011 Polo 3 cyl 1200 tdi for the Wife that pinks badly until warmed up is the norm

I'm sticking my head above the parapet and expecting to be shot down but pinking, pre ignition, is restricted to spark ignition engines. Diesels can, at times knock in a way that loosely mimics pinking, it is more prevalent when the engine is cold. It could indicate a problem with injection pump timing or failing injectors.

The fewer the number of cylinders the more obvious the problem may seem, not so many cylinders to disguise the problem I suppose.

I seem to recall reading that this can be caused by a faulty injector loom on this specific engine

Look's like i need to contact VW and see if there waw a recall then
