Changing from RCD310 to 510
Changing from RCD310 to 510
Hi, I just bought a 2011 polo, it has the rcd310 fm/am radio. I would like to change it to a RCD510 and want to add bluetooth to it. Is there a way to get the dab radio to work with the current antenna? Also I have rear parking sensors that show up on the radio screen, would this work with the 510 out the box? Any information on adding a bluetooth module would be helpful, I am unsure which one I need and if it work just by plugging it in? Thanks.

For dab you’ll need to change the aerial on the roof the non-dab and dab look the exact same. The parking sensors will show up on the rcd510.
To add bluetooth you need a separate module and loom, then the microphone kit around £200 all in for it IIRC.
The RNS315 offers integrated bluetooth so all you need to do is get a microphone kit which is £30. I opted for the Rns315 I prefer it over the rcd510 and think it looks far better and oem in the car

Thanks, yeah it looks like Rns315 might be my best option. I assume ill have to modify the aerial for dab still. I'm struggling to find an adaptor or stock looking aerial to replace?Willni wrote: Fri Oct 27, 2017 11:37 am For dab you’ll need to change the aerial on the roof the non-dab and dab look the exact same. For the aerial you take the headlining down a touch and the back, and undo the nut holding in the aerial, and then swap the bases, I think you might need to run a new dab line to the radio as well can't remember.hazzer111 wrote: Fri Oct 27, 2017 4:03 pmThanks, yeah it looks like Rns315 might be my best option. Yes you will need a new dab cable as the RNS315 has a separate dab connector.
Re: Changing from RCD310 to 510
Hi, so I purchased a fm/am rcd510. However when I plug it in all works fine apart from the mdi aux/usb is not picked up by the 510, is there anything I can Do?

Make sure the plug is in properly. They can pop out of the quad lock and stop the MDI working. If that doesn’t fix it, you might have a faulty unit
Re: Changing from RCD310 to 510
So i tried again, it feels like the connection on the wiring harness isn't as tight as the original. However everything matches. I understand there are additional wires for usb and aux but I assumed the mdi would still work.

Re: Changing from RCD310 to 510
The 510 has full support for MDI
Re: Changing from RCD310 to 510
Hmm okay, so it should just work as soon as I plug it in without recoding or anything? As you can see from the pictures I took I have no option for the mdi. It says aux and usb but I assume that's through the other connections.
Thanks for the help

Correct
The 510 will show media in for the MDI
Have you got an aux and a USB socket?

That looks like a Chinese RCD510. Where did you get it from?
Re: Changing from RCD310 to 510
I have the aux port in the centre next to the 12v outlet and have the mdi output in the gloveboxalexperkins wrote: Sat Nov 25, 2017 4:28 pm Correct

Unfortunately you are correct, I purchased it from ebay. I may have to try get a refund from it.alexperkins wrote: Sat Nov 25, 2017 4:30 pm That looks like a Chinese RCD510. Where did you get it from?
