Question about Instrument Cluster

Post by roby293 »

Hi to all!
I have some questions about Instrument Cluster.
My polo is a 1.2 TDI Bluemotion, so:
My VCDS detect always the same fault on module 17-Instrument; it says:

Code: Select all

Address 17: Instruments (J285) Labels: 5K0-920-xxx-17.clb
   Part No SW: 6R0 920 861 F HW: 6R0 920 861 F
   Component: KOMBI H04 0304
   Serial number: 00000000000000
   Coding: 540800
   Shop #: WSC 00788 648 00255
   ASAM Dataset: EV_Kombi_UDS_VDD_RM09 A04086
   ROD: EV_Kombi_UDS_VDD_RM09_A04_VW25.rod
   VCID: 3878F3A283C8CB8111-806C

1 Fault Found:
10485833 - Internal Control Module Memory Check Sum Error
          B2000 49 [137] - Internal electronic failure
MIL ON - Confirmed - Tested Since Memory Clear
             Freeze Frame:
                    Fault Status: 00000001
                    Fault Priority: 2
                    Fault Frequency: 1
                    Mileage: 76526 km
                    Date: 2014.02.22
                    Time: 17:34:38
After clear all of the error, this fault come back. Every time I start the car, the on-board computer say me "Error", and in some case the lights of the rev counter hands and the speed remain off, and the check light of handbrake doesn't light on.
I searched on the web but I can't find a solution. I think that the only solution is to replace the instrument cluster.

1) Can you guys help me if possible to solve this fault??
2) If the only way is to replace the Intrument Cluster, can I put a 6c, or a 6R GTI intsrument?
3) My code of that part is: 6R0 920 861 F; if I found another part with different code (e.g.:6R0 920 861 H), I need to recode Instrument??

Sorry for my bad english, anyway thanks to all!

Hi Roby 293

Unlikely to be the instrument cluster. The fault code you have gives the following on the Ross Tech site:

16985/P0601/001537 - Internal Control Module: Memory Check Sum Error

Possible Symptoms
MIL illuminated

Possible Causes
Engine Control Unit (ECU) defective
Flash ROM (used in aftermarket "chips") defective
Low Voltage

Possible Solutions
Replace ECU
Contact aftermarket chiptuner for repair of their chip
Check and test Battery and Charging system

Special Notes
When found in 1.8T: This thread might be useful: http://forums.vwvortex.com/zerothread?id=915672

If you have not chipped the engine it is more likely to be an ECU fault or battery/charging system. I would check the battery voltage first.

I have not chipped the engine and I already changed my battery few months ago.
