Reversing camera on aftermarket radio

Post by cypress »

Goodday everyone,

Since the project steering wheel has been completed, I want to delve into a reversing camera that is in the emblem.

BUT! since I have an RCD310 radio I cannot use it on that.

Now I want to replace the radio it contains with an Alpine radio (ilx W650bt).
So I'm curious if anyone has experience connecting a reversing camera to an aftermarket radio.

I don't have a camera against that either, so it still has to be purchased.

Now I have found the topic of iichel's polo.

And he has put in his TS:
OEM 5K Golf 6 / T6 badge rear view camera Highline -> 5K0827469H + 7E0907441 + wiring

I hope there is someone who has experience with it,
And who can confirm me if the item number mentioned above can work.

I'm curious!

It's important to match the camera to the needs of the radio in terms of the connector.
This is what to look out for:

26-pin = 4 wires for the video = sRGB (mostly OEM)
yellow tulip = composite = 2 wires for the signal (mostly aftermarket)

If you have an RNS/RCD, you need the 26-pin plug (OEM camera or ali + converter)
If you have another radio that needs a composite video signal, like a composite connector, you need a camera to suit that.

The camera you mention, the one I have, is an OEM composite camera that connects to a module. The module then sends out a differet signal (sRGB) to my RNS.

you radio looks like this:

I'd suggest a composite camera so you can connect it to the yellow tulip connector.
My camera can do that, with a small plug inbetween just for the shape of the connector.
Otherwise an aliexpress logo camera will do the trick as well. Or a camera in the license plate light/bumper.
