CBZB Engine - Timing Chain / Crank Sensor / Cam Sensor

Hi All

I know this forum is for VW Polos but the VW Golf shares the same engine


I need some guidance with my 1.2 TSI CBZB engine.

Recently my EML has come on - I have checked the codes and this was the code that was scanned - P001600 - Crankshaft Position - Camshaft Position Correlation Bank 1 Sensor A.

After seeing this code I changed the Cam and crank sensor, I then had the code cleared but the same issue persisted

I was reading up about this and it may have been an issue with a stretched chain.

I have had the chain replaced and yet I am still encountering the same problem.

Does anyone have any idea or advice on what else could be causing the issue?

I've not done my chain as yet (It's on my wish list) but I've read-up as much as I can find.

First off chances are P0 01600. isn't a faulty sensor. The fault description (Crankshaft Position - Camshaft Position Correlation Bank 1 Sensor A.) Indicates the measured data is outside the expected range. As I understand it measures the signal from the crank and the cam sensor and compares the two. You've done the crank senor anyway so it's something crossed off.

Had a little dig in ErWin. The numbers for physically measuring elongation are under 25degs is acceptable, above 26 degs is out of spec. Not sure how that relates to crank-cam position but you would assume that sets the limit. But you would assume if the car measures above the limit it flags a DTC.

Who replaced your cam-chain? Assuming they did it correctly. Pretty sure part of the procedure is to re-adapt the cars setting to tell it a new chain has been fitted otherwise it can still get screwed up.

One mistake I've seen mentioned, that people make is not to remove the little bracket that supports the cooling pipe on the rear of the engine before they screw in the locking pin and set TDC. If you forget that you effectively set TDC to the wrong position so it is permanently wrong.

Have you had the car scanned?

Thank you so much for your reply

I was the one who changed the chain but had support from my local mechanic and he set the locking tools in place and i know 100% the bracket was not removed so I think this is why potentially the timing is slightly off

I will have to remove the bracket and get it re-timed
Thankfully that won't be too much of a big job

Surprised how that little bracket can throw it off.

I will let you know how I get on.

Aye, That's the little bracket, it holds the locating pin out just enough to screw up the timing. There's a pretty good walk-through on YouTube of a CBZB chain replacement I will see if I can put my finger on it.

There's a reasonable thread here with a a fair bit of discussion and a few good links. Jay-Jay, has posted tons of info, and done some upgrades to his chain.

I have just timed the car again without the bracket on and it's working perfect. The eml light has also turned off.

I would just like to say thank you so so so so much for your help really appreciate it.

No worries you're very welcome, just pleased it turned out to be that and not some other gremlins in the works.

Did the EML light clear itself or did you need to clear the fault?
