Steering Angle Sensor Problem
Sorry to bother you all but i am at my wits end trying to sort this out.
my son had a problem with his high beam not working then one night it worked and stuck on and started smelling of burned plastic.
i got another switch and clock spring and when i took old one off the plastic had melted at the bottom but not near the wiring.
since fitting new switch i get the perminent esp light on the dash and cant reset the steering angle.
i put old clock spring on and still same and purchased another one and still same.
i have checked and it is reading 0 degrees so not out by 360%.
ive tried to re learn it a lot of times and still the same.
can anyone help me out on this.
thank you in advance
steve

Re: Steering Angle Sensor Problem
You'll need to do a basic setting of the steering angle and you'll be good to go

Re: Steering Angle Sensor Problem
I have tried the full lock left right and centre then drive under 15 miles hour but still won't set.
It comes up with error for steering adjustment g85 as well.
I must have tried at least 5 to 10 times now.
Is there anyway basic setting can be put back in with a code.
Thank you

Re: Steering Angle Sensor Problem
Do this procedure (it doesn't matter if it's for Polo 9N3, it's the same principle).
http://wiki.ross-tech.com/wiki/index.ph ... Bosch_5.7)
Remember to enter the Security Access 40168 before going to the Basic adjustment.
Remember to do the procedure with the engine OFF/ignition ON.
Recommendations, notes:
Before doing the basic adjustment, drive completely straight for about 20 meters on a completely flat surface, stop. Considering the center position of the G85 sensor, mechanically/manually adjust the center position of the steering wheel and the combi switch levers. You will find markings/indications on the parts and also use common sense so that everything seems centered. ....They are usually a little more than two turns of the steering wheel on each side.
Again drive as straight as possible another 20 meters, stop, Engine OFF/Ignition ON, and start with the above procedure for the basic adjustment of the G85.
Once you click on the procedure, you will not see any progress, everything seems not to work, because the angle data is captured when you close the dialog (Done, Go back) and exit the ABS unit. If you help yourself with the measurement of values (G85 angle) you find those 0º +/-5 more easily.
Then the warnings/lights on the instrument panel will go away and the Basic Adjustment will be done.
Here, on occasions, the breakage of the internal ribbon cable of the G85 has been reported due to incorrect previous installation.(in case of not taking into account the markings/indications of the center position)
---
By the way, ODIS S does not have a guided function set for this procedure.

Re: Steering Angle Sensor Problem
Just making sure, did you install stalks with a 6Q0 or 6R0 part number?
From my experience, your ESP8.2i is not compatible with the 6R0 steering angle sensor, that comes with 6R0 stalks.
The 6Q0 steering angle sensor, that comes with the 6Q0 stalks and are factory for your car, should be fine.

Re: Steering Angle Sensor Problem
I would just like to thank you both for helping me out with this.
It has worked this time.
I think the key to it all was stay away from basic settings until security has been done and the ignition on but not running (think I always tried it running but not sure.
Thank you very much.
Could I trouble you to see if I can sort out the other fault on the can gateway if it's not too much trouble.
Thanks a million steve

Re: Steering Angle Sensor Problem
Well, this Polo has a very basic equipment, which is an excellent advantage nowadays (a rising value).Mgste wrote: Wed Jun 07, 2023 6:18 pm

Probably/perhaps the fault reflected in the Gateway is a consequence of installing a Radio that is not original VW equipment (which is not a problem), or that the installed VW radio is not correct connected.
The comfort/convenience CAN BUS on the factory 6R is pretty simple:
BCM_ GW_Radio_Multimedia module_Phone module_Climate control module_Trailer module_OBD2 port.

Thank you.
Yes he has a different stereo in the car now.
I'm a lot happier now.
Thank you very much again

Re: Steering Angle Sensor Problem
It makes sense to install an affordable radio that has sufficient connectivity for today's technologies, we hope that your son/family can enjoy this 6R for many years, it has a very nice engine to drive
, ... enough for all kinds of daily routines.
