6C GTI Healight Vents

Hello.

So I've been battling my problem of headlight condensation for about 3 weeks now and I think I'm just about going crazy.

I'm at the point now where I am going to go around the housing seal with some clear Silicone to try and seal any potential gaps in the original seal.

Upon taking the units out today (again) I noticed something interesting. On each of the units there seems to be 4 vents, and on both only 2 of them are covered with a small rubber tube(circled in green). Could this be the reason why I'm having this problem?

If not, any other pointers would be appreciated. As I said before I've tried drying them out, I've tried Silica bags in the backs of the units and I'm going to try and re-seal them using Silicone. Thanks in advance.

you have those rubber thingys on fog lamps. I think they serve as a bump stop

Mine started fogging up around the indicator after I had replaced them. Particularly when driving in the wet. I took the headlights back off the car and left the access plug for the indicator off and let them "air out" for a little while one day in my kitchen when it wasn't too humid and haven't had an issue since.

Had a quick look and there seem to be a number of parts that may have seals that are probably worth looking at.

items 12, 3, 11, 8, and 10 look like a good start.

How severe is the condensation? Does it only occur when driving in the rain?

As I mentioned the fogging issue I had only occurred after driving in the wet but I didn't get any substantial condensation where there were water droplets forming just fogged over in the small area around the indicator bulb.

Mine is also around the indicator area. Or so it seems to start from there. It does only happen in the rain but its to the point where water drops actually form and stay there until I remove the unit and dry it out in the house.

The diagram is actually very helpful, thank you. If the problem occurs in the future I will come back to it but fingers crossed the silicone seems to have helped.

For anyone who wants to know.. The silicone seal all the way around the headlights seems to have helped a lot. There is still a very small amount of condensation but I suspect it's because I didn't allow them to dry out long enough. The silica bags seem to make it better for 1 or 2 days but I suspect after that they start to release moisture back into the unit as they seem to be worse than ever. Maybe I just have some crap silica brand.
