Would love to see how much it accumulates over time.
@2226 Thank you so much for your help.

Without this post, I wouldn't have been encouraged to do it.
I cut about a meter off each of the two 1/2-inch pipes so there wouldn't be so much pipe lying on top of the engine, as you can see in the previous photo.
What I'm still looking to improve is the support I added, which moves around on these cobblestone streets in Latin America. I'm worried it's too loose, and I'd like to reinforce it a bit so it doesn't move so much. I'm definitely waiting for your replacement PCV valve to arrive.

And I'm hoping to improve things here. I certainly hope to be able to show how much oil the oil pickup collects.

Me? lol. You must mean Le_Combattant. He got the ball rolling.
I still have to do mine and it looks like it's going to be a very very long time before I do it.

Le_Combattant is an example of struggle and perseverance; many of us have to learn from him. That's why I thanked the forum in general, so that when he reads this, he'll remember you too, since you're the only one who responds, haha. By now, we might not even exist here anymore, but these engines sometimes make you want to throw them in the trash. What a load of crap they are! And the environmentalists who are just there to mess things up... I remember when I had a Gol Plus with an AP engine; all I needed were oil changes and intake cleaning, which I did myself, after 120,000 km and after 15 years of owning it.

This thread has had over 19,000 views! which is worth mentioning. Not participating doesn't mean it's not highly interesting.
We all hope you'll surprise us with your experiments/improvements/evolutions/results.

The work so far looks promising.👍
Thanks! :)

I hear you on that.
First car I've had that is love hate relationship.
I'm fighting some financial issues right now and thinking of ditching this and going back to a 90s Golf Mk3. No DI, no funky electronics, no turbos, no expensive 17" wheels.
But finding a good old one now is almost impossible.
I saw some mk3 Golf selling the other day with 200,000km+ on them for more than what I can sell the Polo for.
People are realising and wanting to go back in time.

Oh, did anyone notice th erWin email the other day? No more access for private people. Only workshops willing to pay the fees. Another step VW is taking to ensure you can't fix your own car.

VW knows how to choose its customers very well.
From now on, we can only be their best friends.

I have thought about this also and had the walnut blasting done on my car 35k miles ago. There are a few different oil catch cans that a UK VAG Performance parts store sells. Not sure how they compare to others in this thread?

These new engines leave a love-hate feeling. When you connect any scanner, you get the SFD lock, which supposedly requires payment to a website that releases a code for "24 hours." It's all very shady. The search for cars older than 2008 is becoming increasingly common here. Even at the dealership, before I sold it, they told me that older vehicles are being sought after much more frequently.

They vary in size and relative weight, and also in the inlet size for 16, 17mm, and 25mm tubing. They also have an internal drain valve. The baffles look promising if they live up to expectations. Personally, I don't go for equipment with steel wool because I'm afraid a strand of steel might come loose. Besides, that three-way one is simply two inlets and one outlet, which I don't see the point of for this forum thread. In this engine's configuration with separate PCV valves, I don't see how the valves would function properly. Combining them into a single port would change the engine's configuration, which would pose a risk. The inlet coming from the PCV valve in block mode could be connected; in this engine, it connects to the filter, but from what I've observed, it doesn't contain oil or contaminants. We also have the other inlet that connects to the lower part of the intake manifold, and I've inspected the pipes, which I found clean. Regarding the option suggested by 2226, it uses a relief valve, which I didn't choose, but it could be a possibility. I suppose that one with a relief valve should open depending on the pressure.

@ juantecnico02, just checking in... how is your hose holding up after all these months?

I finally received a PCV pipe today. AliExpress item, arrived in FAW/VW/Audi box.
Took me long enough to order. The last year has been rubbish financially.

I've cut it open and removed the inner pipe so I have the just the ends like you did.

I am sourcing hose now, but have changed my mind about fuel transfer hose. I have found AN12 CPE (chlorinated polyethylene) hose locally rated to 150C in size AN12 (17.6mm inner diameter). My local transfer hoses are coming in at just 80C, might get soft as they heat up and concerned about collapsing under slight vacuum. There won't be immense vacuum on that hose though, just a slight draw if my thinking is correct.

The CPE hose I found is minimum bend radius of 115mm, but I think it'll work.

The AN12 has a larger inner diameter than the 13-14mm of the stock pipe and fittings, but in reality this will result in slower gas velocity which might be just the right thing for my catch can.

On another note, the ends of these are NW16. You can get NW16 to barb connectors from AliExpress in both straight and 45 degrees. Easy way to turn this into a quick disconnect.
I'm just going to throw hose on the NW16 barbs and clamp down with the normal EFI wire clamps.

Was hoping to have this done ages ago, but life always steps in to mess plans up.

EDIT:
I correct myself.
Those are not NW16.
The "barb" ends of the factory fittings are for Normquick V2 NW15.
The hard line is made from PA6/12, outer diameter 16mm, inner diameter 14mm, 1mm wall thickness.
Somehow they managed to stretch those over the 18.6mm NW15 fittings. I want to try the same thing with PA12 tubing.

@226
I'm glad to hear from you after so long. I received your email a few days ago, and just as I'm about to reply, other things always come up. But remember, I always keep this forum thread updated. I can only respond when I have a moment. Regarding your suggestion, I think using the hose with the highest temperature rating is a good option, although I haven't had any problems with excessive suction or overheating. Keep in mind that the hose you can find locally is the same one I'm using, rated up to 80 degrees Celsius. I've had enough of it to refill my tank after just 3,000 kilometers of service, and when I get my next service soon, I think I'll have a similar amount of recovery fluid. I think using V2 NW15 is a practical idea. I'm always open to any suggestions or opinions on how the project can be improved. I'm just sharing my experience so far, and I'm eager to hear how your project is progressing. It's true, it's a struggle. constant to adapt to the costs of things more than one VW product

That's quite a bit of oil. How large is the catch tank?

Yeah looks like I'm going to go with regular hose with oil-resistant rating.
Will get some SAE 100 R6 hose, but will probably put a small heat shield sleeve over it near the turbo.
But reassuring to know you've had no issues with the fuel transfer hose.

It's much cheaper than the other options.
The silicone hose stuff is too expensive.
Other hoses (CPE) are not flexible enough, but I was going for too big a size.

So I'm going to just go with the regular hose.

I want to go speak to the air brake shop here and try and get PA12 tube in either 16mm/12mm (OD/ID), 16mm/14mm or 18mm/14mm (hard to find it seems).
Then create my own replacement hard lines similar to the factory PA6/12. The 18/14mm would be perfect because the thicker wall makes up for less rigidity of the PA12.
For those the NW15 connectors will be awesome. Found perfect set on Aliexpress, but expensive.

I tend to over-analyse stuff like this. :D

Hi, I think there was a translation issue; actually, there isn't much oil collecting there. I can't find a thermal sleeve locally—only on AliExpress, but it's expensive. Also, the standard hose I used is braided (I don't think it shows in the photo, but it is). I'll attach a photo so you can see what the catch can has collected. Insulating the piping is a great idea; it's definitely on my to-do list.
