2006 Polo Dune Rear Shocks advise

Post by CarbonChaos »

Hi all , just bought a fixer upper , need someone to confirm or deny that the rear shocks on a dune/cross/fun ( wherever you are in the world) are the same as a standard polo of the same era ?
The dune has a raised ride height from factory are the shocks longer or is this all in the springs to achieve this .

Thanks in advance

Have you ever thought or tried, to get a copy of "CAR DATA" for this car, if you get/got that, you would end up with the exact option ie PR: codes for everything and that will include rear damping - and that would let you match that info with what is on the VW parts listings.

I've had a quick look, and didn't see mention of "Dune" as being an option, just "heavy duty" and "HOR" listed against some PR: options.

Hi thanks,
Mine does still have the data stickers in the boot and front of the service book,
I’ve had a look through them using OBD11 to decode the numbers and found some referring to suspension components.
PR CODES
1GB : front shock absorption for rough road design
1JB : rear shock absorption for rough road design
G11 : front shock absorption
L18 :suspension range 18 installation control only
0YB : weight range 2 installation control only

Nothing jumps out to say different shock absorbers to standard, so I guess it’s all in the springs .

I always like to get a print out of the complete factory PR codes for any cars I cold end up working on, it is extensive and having that makes buying spares from aftermarket "a way down the line", so much easier. The complete list of PR codes is HUGE when compared with the build sheet stuck to the service book and car boot.

One maybe irrelevant issue here was, I bought or imported a 2000MY VW Passat 4Motion that was built late in build year, so it ended up getting quite a few of the 2001MY parts fitted to it, that were only listed as being a "part change" in 2001MY - so running that car for 13 years and 87,000 miles meant that I was able to buy the correct/revised parts - okay my local VW dealer would have also made sure that I was sold the correct parts for that car (well maybe as the workshop claimed it was bought using European parts - because I had imported it! These people almost make you cry with their crap), in fact it was that dealership's parts department that handed me over my first printout of "CAR DATA" and advised me to make sure that I kept it - so at least they were being friendly to a customer who had "ripped off" VW AG or more likely VW UK by importing a VW direct from Europe.
