Mileage on a full tank...

Post by kapur »

Just wanted to know, i've done a thread like this before, but recently i changed the air filter, and the car is doing a bit more miles to a full tank.

It used to be able to just about do 183ish, now it's doing 200+, i'll definately check the meter tomorow, since it's near the E line on the gauge.

Anyway, this is how it's going to be:-

Car:- 1.4S Auto 5 door
Mileage to full tank/Miles Per Gallon:- 200 (approx.) on full tank

Mine depends greatly on the weather and the type of journeys I'm doing. It can be over 400 but at the moment it is about 290. But if I take some motorway trips at about 75 it goes up to about 350 at this time or year. Its the cold starts when its running rich with a big manifold heater turned on that screws up your economy!

You must have a heavy foot, or you have wide tyres on or something. Put some more wind in your tyres and you will find your economy will go up.

my mk4 1.4 has been getting around 270 ish for full tank down to the red line thingies of empty

if the gti's burn so much petrol (200 miles to those red line thingies) i might have to consider a tdi lol

No, the spec says it should never really be under 40mpg on combined journeys. But if you do short journeys and lots of booting it then it can rapidly go to less than 25.

A tank is about 9Gal plus about another 1.5 gal for neck and all the other bits. so at 45 mpg thats about 405 miles, but say you leave one gal, that should be about 360 on a nice long run.

200 is 25/gal and that is very poor economy.

Concorde does 9 mpg / passenger!

Not very fast - judging by the ammount of extended wing the last one I flew in needed to get it's lardy arse of the deck - they are quite quick on initial acceleration - winding it up to full chat with the brakes hard on does lead to a fairly impressive burst of acceleration - I do it in autos myself

VRotate ? About 140 knots? (155mph) Depends on load, pressure, temperature etc etc etc.

Another random fact?

A cheetah can do 0 - 60 in 3.8 seconds and has a maxiumum output of over 45 Horse Power. Thats a standing quarter mile in about 6 seconds less than your GTi. But at the end of it it has to go to sleep for half a day.

Mk4 1.3 spi standard but for 195/45/15s used 40.69 litres to do 361.9 miles on Saturday, approx. 40.5mpg. Considering I was taking it easy I find that rather poor and think I'll be getting rid of the 195s. On a similar trip driven in a similar way my mk3 Fox did 53mpg 8)

Winter makes it worse..... MKIV 1.4 8V - sloth - 195/45 15's have just be replaced with 185 14's to see if I can get back above 40mpg!!!

Current tank 210 miles and just over 1/2 full but it drops like a scud after half a tank

I've got some 175/55s to try on the 15s. Slightly larger rolling radius than the 195/45s which won't go amiss either.

I still want a 1.4 tdi in it though :D
