1: The full name of the car is 1.4 TDI SE PD, what the hell does PD mean??

2: The garage I bought it form has stuck masisve gross stickers in the back window and a smaller one on the boot! is using a haridryer/dental floss way the best way to get them off?

Will try

1.4 = engine size
TDi =Turbo Diesel Injection
SE = Trim Level ie Base, L, CL, GL, SE
PD = Not a clue I only know MKII & IV's

Hairdryer and then pick at the edge of the sticker till you have enough to get hold of and slowly peel it off

Swiped from VW.co.uk

Pumpe Düse

Our amazing Pumpe Düse engine technology injects diesel directly into the cylinder at exceptionally high pressure. This produces a finer spray and a more even burn to give more torque, lower fuel consumption, reduced emissions and even lower tax bills. In fact, demand for this ground breaking technology has been so high that you’ll now find Pumpe Düse engines on all our models (excluding the Polo SDI).

Fuel Stratified Injection

Fuel Stratified Injection (FSI) is the petrol equivalent of Pumpe Düse technology. It injects the fuel directly into the combustion chamber at high pressure, which increases power by 15%, while reducing fuel consumption by as much as 10%.

And from skoda.co.uk

Pump Duse

The engine is turbo charged in tandem with a pressure air cooler that pumps air into the engines 3 cylinders. The fuel is delivered via electronically controlled compound injectors that are mounted in the cylinder head, this revolutionary technology is known as Pumpe Duse or Pump-Nozzle-System. Pumpe Duse allows Diesel to be provided at extremely high pressures resulting in better combustion that in turn allows for swift acceleration and low fuel consumption.

Pumpe Düse: more efficient and better power delivery then basically?

In terms of basic mods, there's not a massive amount you can do with a diesel apart from chipping it really, which on the 1.4 wouldn't give up any massive gains..? Correct me if I'm wrong, I'm no expert, it's just what I've been reading over the years :| oh and of course you can fit a new exhaust but not sure how that would work out on a diesel...

Externally, -35mm springs, aero wipers and just keep her nice and tidy! Internally, TT pedals for the driver's footwell and a poppy coral... mmm, lemons :wink:

And finally, if you can afford the price premium over City Diesel, try BP's Diesel Ultimate fuel for smoother running and benefits in the economy and power departments :)

Just a few thoughts before lunch - HTH!

Cheers

Ah yes and as you have a 6n2 polo, you may want to check out the MkV bit of the forum for some more ideas.

Cheers for the replies.....

aaaahhh so im a Mk5.. :oops:

Pumpe Duse.... sounds interesting

whats (6n2) ????

i was told by the bloke in the garage to put in the best diesel i can afford, it will improve performance and give me more MPG and in the long run be better for the car!

what are aero wipers? i was going to change the ones on it because when i test drove it it was raining and the standard wipers were sh*te!!!

oh one last question if i may :? just bought a CDsystem for the car, halfords doing a good deal, anyway what are the standard speakers like on a Mk5? i guess to get full potential will have to 'upgrade'?

cheers again...... have to sort out insurance now!

6n2 is the codename for the model of Polo, e.g the mk4 was 6n, and the mk5, called by some as the mk4 "facelift", is the 6n2. Newest Polos are 9n.

Aero wipers are simply a different design of wipers as fitted to later model VWs like the Bora, Passat and Golf from about 2002ish onwards - they look like a strip of rubber and are more flexible and more effective. I've got normal wipers, new in the middle of last year, and the rear one is already starting to smear and drag :? whereas my parent's Bora are aeros and they've lasted since they had the car two years ago... aero wipers are on my "to-do" list :) there's a pic below:

I'm relatively happy with the standard setup of the GTi, I've got a VW Gamma unit and the standard speakers and it sounds OK but I'm thinking about an upgrade. I'm very fussy about the looks of the headunit though, plus need one that can communicate with the factory-fitted 6-CD changer in the boot, and to top it all of I'm worried about security* :| however if you plug a new headunit in, you will get some improvement over standard simply because the new headunit's internal amp will push more power to the speakers. See what you make of it before spending cash on new speakers :wink:

*basically if I have an upgraded headunit my car will become more of a target for thieving chavs, and I don't really like the idea of some pikey wanting to steal my stereo...
