tyre sizes on 14's

Post by lord_sharpy »

ive just put some 14" bbs wheels on my gt, et38 it says on the rim and they have 185/60 14 tires on, they scrub really bad on the front on the inside of the arch, they are 6.5j x 14h2.
any help would be great or im off to get my 15's back :(
cheers
james

ps is there any other numbers on them to determine sizes etc?

IIRC, The correct size should be 185/55.

I have 185/50/14's They read approx 2mph under the speedo so no worries about speeding by accident.

will 185/50 cure it then? caus tis scrubbing on the back of the arch when you brake hard and top of the arch on bigger bumps.

how much is it lowered by? 185/60 is a bit too big but it shouldnt really be causing you problems.

its lowered by 40, i thought they would go straight on being 38 offset and seeing as i was running 195/45 15's before i didnt think i would have any problems, its more the drivers arch catching than passenger.

I had to make this desicion a few months ago.

On a 14x6 wheel I went for 195/45/14's they look the part (lower profile) and were cheaper than 185/50/14's.

The wheels originally had 175/60/14 and were scrubbing quite bad on the GT with standard suspension. The G40 is lowered at least 40mm if not 60mm (not sure) and there is no problems whatsoever on 195/45/14

The only thing I noticed is that it sits slightly higher on the 195/45/14 than it did on the standard G40 13" alloys (175/60/13) not that you would really notice though, strange as I thought it would have been lower still...

James.

If the original tyres were 165/65/13 then your 195/45/14 tyres will put your speedo out by about 2mph..ie:- speedo says 60mph but your really doing 58..so your safe :-D

Cause your sitting on the drivers side so its proabably lowering the car abit so it snatches more.
