F****** welding

I have me coupe, and needs some welding on the drivers wheel arch, just in front of the suspension,

But the polo being the polo, had to have the Petrol tank behond the the wheel arch

So me prob is that it wont pass mot, without welding, and i cant weld with the petrol tank there as it Bye bye coupe

So anyone know a good way to drain the petrol, not brake the tank, and if i brake it , how easy i it to fit a new one?

sorry but I don't understand where does it need welding? the sill, the inner arch or the outer arch, depending on where it is it may not have to be welded

K the inner arch of the car, just in front of the end of the suspension, were it joins the beam, and it more then 5 cm long, and if u poke it , it crumbles, and goes straight though!

right according to the mot rules corrosion must not be within 30cm of a suspension mounting point or seatbelt mount, tbh I'd get it welded at a garage and let them worry about the petrol tank as it sound like its near the axle beam mounting

You'll just have the syphon the petrol out and drop the tank off if you're doing it yourself. I'd second the idea of getting it done professionally though if it's near any kind of structural support.

I've done a similar repair to my early Derby. It seems like a Polo weak point. To do the job properly, the tank really should come out (i would budget for a new one, just in case the filler neck separates from the tank on removal) and the rusted steel cut out and relaced with good clean stuff. It's a horrible job to do yourself, you may also need to remove part of the outer sill to get at the rot that will be hidden behind. Good luck with the repairs.

Don't get too down heartened by it, get a quote to do the work first. I would guess at around Â£200 - Â£250, excluding a new fuel tank. Also, the "other" side might need doing too within a short time, but at least that can be done with the tank in. Don't scrap it just yet...

I have a quote for the welding its 60 quid and the gargae will basically chnage the tank for nout!

And both side need doing, but it the tank side that is causing the probs!

And a new tank is bout 100quid it looks at the moment!

That's a good price, bite their hands off. Well worth getting it all done. If your fuel tank's gotta come out, i would replace it if it's visibly rusty anyway. Save you a lorra lorra trouble in the future.

well i dont wanna bite there hands off , but yea that is a good price, but that fact that mot, insurance, and tax are al together and the tank is gnna cost a f*****g foturne

Make sure you get the right one, if your car is a Carburettored version, then the tank i've linked you to is correct, if your cars fuel injected, then you'll need a different tank (on the same site...).

polo-vixen, i need to change my tank as well, already got another tank but my last quote was Â£40 when i paid only beans for the tank (scrappie) so i didn't bother. Can you get a quote for only a tank change next time you are there? And where's the garage located?
