INLET

Post by ZOMBIE »

My inlet manifold does not have a pipe coming off the exhaust onto the inlet mainfold to warm it? should it have it on a 1.3 2g engine? Its just haynes says that I have the 1.05 version???? the inlet has never been changed or modified. Can anyone explain this to me????

^ The silver pipe in that photo is what you're missing, yeah? Should lead from the exhaust manifold heat shield to an inlet in the air intake housing, which is controlled by a vacuum operated flap which opens when the engine temperature is very cold and allows warm air into the carburettor. Good in the winter to prevent carb icing and to get it running a bit more smoothly when you first start up. However, I notice you have a K&N bolt on air filter, so you won't have any kind of inlet for this pipe so it would be a bit useless having one ;) It's not going to make much difference through the summer, but if you start getting carb icing in the winter you may want to go back to your old air filter housing and buy some warm air ducting for it - costs about a fiver in an auto accessory shop for a length of it.

the manifold pre-heater pipe was fitted only to the early Polo's with the non hydrolic tappets, your's should have an electrical heater fitted (controled by a sensor on the thermstat housing). Don't always believe Haynes they sometimes use earlier info and pictures in later manuals.
