My new sound project:P

Post by alexperkins »

Hi guys,

Well I have been doing some research, and I'm gonna fit rear speakers to my 1.0E - but they are gonna be VW speakers and gonna have VW grilles and gonna be in the doors!. Now your probably sitting there thinking how is he gonna do that, especially with a BETA head unit.

So first step, I'm getting hold of a GAMMA head unit. Then getting the radio code, fitting it etcetc. Next step - wiring. Gonna try and get a proper loom if not get one made up for the rear speakers.

The next thing will be to get hold of the brackets for the inside of the door for the VW speakers. I know there are holes for the bracket - and I know where to get the bracket :P

Then I have to get two old front door cards off a polo, and remove the bottom grilles from them (or get some 5 door GTI doorcards). Drill the holes out in the door in line with the speaker bracket, and mount the grille (same as the front in effect). I'm also gonna fit the tweeters same as the front in the tops of the doors. After that, gotta mount the speakers, connect all the wires and fingers crossed it will all work.

I know I sound like I am mad with this crazy idea, but I'm gonna make it work - and I wont stop till I've done it. Im gonna photoshop it a bit later when I have a chance.

All left to do then is the foglights and the new grilles and im finished (ill most likely find something else i want to change though :D)

Cheers Guys,

Alex

why do you want to waste money, when you can put it to a much better use getting an aftermarket system?

Well, the reason is I have the VW ipod adapter - therefore i have to use the OE headunits.

Besides, its not like i need a subwoofer or a CD player or DAB radio or any of that stuff. I like everything to be original in its looks to be honest. I just want rear speakers, and I want do do it the well original looking way :P

Alex

Why??? You dont need rear speakers, they're a complete waste of time and space. Just get a decent headunit, an amp and some quality components. And a small sub if you want it to sound better. Rear speakers are utterly pointless. So much so i intend to remove mine when i finally get round to putting in my install.

Edit - you posted while i was! Get a gamma unit (i have one right next to me) and get the front amped then. The unit has this facility. Components fit nicely behind the door cards as do tweeters.

Possibly selling, would need yours as px for when i sell the car. I also have the cd player that goes under it. I believe its fairly straightforward to amplify. One would assume you'd need an amp with high level inputs. Ie, you wire from the headunits speaker take offs to the amp. There's a big multiplug on the top of the amp your supposed to use, but i dont know how you'd wire it in. Im sure i could find out for you though.

woop woop.. people coming round to the right way :D with my sound systems i only have music playing through the fronts, sounds much better. Also i don't know if you had a look at the speakers yet, if you want to connect upto an amplifier you're gonna have to run the wires from the amp, wherever you decide to put it and to warn you, you can't get wires through the door gromit. Also the connections are different to normal speakers.

Ye they got a fancy plug - and the door grommit is a multi pin as i seem to remember :P thats german design for ya

Anyways, I went to the scrap yard today, and the speakers I wanted were gone - they were there last week aswell. So i gotta now wait for another 6n2 of any kind to come in so i can get all the bits i need. Hehe If not, Ill have to use aftermarket ones - just dont want them louder tis a difficult choice :P

Cheers,

Alex

As above. Was the easist way. When i finally get round to sticking my amp in I'll hack into the loom in the dash for the speaker wires. I managed to mount the crossovers in the doors as well.
