hi mate,

welcome to the forum. It sounds like one of the vacuum/air lines is damaged.

the central locking pump is in the boot on the right hand side (where the 1st aid kit should be)

take it out and check to make sure all pipes are correctly inserted...

The central locking pump is a black box with a cylinder shape on top of it.

the vacuum pump is what works the central locking so yeah you will need it. i had this problem when i first got my car, turned out someone had unplugged the pump from the electrics! when we plugged it back in, we found out why.... theres a leak in mine somewhere so when i lock it, it keeps whirring for about 30 secs. the look on peoples faces when i walk away from my car, whirring like mad is totally priceless!
