Dirty Diesels

Post by Ben90 »

Okay, as much as some of us love diesels they certainly don't help themselves when it comes to keeping clean. I'm afraid this isn't a detailing thread, what I mean is the internals of the car :)

Anyway, since I'm racking up the miles I'm thinking of intervening sooner rather than later when it comes to engine cleanliness before it becomes a bigger problem.

Two things that I know of that can help:

- Oil separator
http://www.allardaluminiumproducts.co.u ... gines.html

-EGR delete
http://www.allardaluminiumproducts.co.u ... 0-bhp.html

Anybody had experience with any of these kits? Or diesel experts like to put their oar in? I understand that I'd have to get the engine fault light mapped out before the next MOT.

Thanks all

Engine is a mapped pd100

Thanks for the reply. I should have had it mapped out at the time, doh!

I'm being quoted £100 to have the egr mapped out now, alternatively I could blank it at the exhaust end and leave the valve operational but with no exhaust gases going though it, would that throw up a fault code?

As tempting as that sounds I think I'm happy with the power I've got :) I just don't want that power diminishing over time due to the inlet looking like Lindsay Lohan's nose.

Good news about the fault light not failing MOT's, but I'd still like it gone as it will haunt me otherwise. Guess I'll have to bite the bullet and fork out. I suppose if I want the EGR deleted later on to remove the physical restriction it'll save me having to map it out anyway.
