Removing seats from a polo 9n

hi,

i tried removing my seats today. i was expecting the 4 screws in each seat rail to be a torx screw. on inspection, they were some weird 12-pointed star instead of the 6-pointed star torx screws.

i was confued, so i went to halfrauds and i bought a t50 torx driver. i tried it in the 12 pointed screw recess, and it removed a few of them.

on some of the screws however, the torx bit is just spinning in the recess. it is shredding the 12-pointed star to bits. now to prevent the screws becoming completely useless, i stopped removing the screws.

WHAT TOOL DO I USE TO GET THE DAMN SCREWS OUT. i could not find a 12-pointed bit anywhere!!

PLEASE PLEASE HELP!!! i am really p*ssed off right now!

I think the 12 star ones are called spline tools. They are technically the same size though, it may only have 6 stars but they will still fit. (the same goes for pretty much every torx in a vw!

thanks but i am still looking for help with what bit to use to get these nuts out. IF i continue to use a torx bit, i will shred the pattern inside the nut, which will really mess things up coz then i'll never be able to get them out!!

did everybody here remove the nuts using a torx set? what size? any ideas please. i have my seats half off and my car is out of commision until i fit the new interior

why not just use the right size torx bit, because you quite clearly havent been or it wouldnt have chewwed it up

there not torx there spline, just go out and buy a cheap socket set and make sure it has spline sockets in it

You will need a set of XZN bits to remove them properly

Careful when putting them back in though, the bolts are hardened steel and the captured nuts in the body of the car are mild steel = easily cross threaded

Due to the nuts being captured as well once they are fooked theres no way of egtting them out to replace them

thanks pidge. Yep they were XZN nuts, made of a very soft metal, and so if u use a torx bit it can really shred the pattern. the 12pointed star is also called a triple square. went down to my nearest parts place and bought the bit for Â£3. then i did the job properly!!
